What’s It Worth Fact:
Over the past decade, the Swiss-born sculptor, Alberto Giacometti, has been established as the most expensive sculptor on the market. Some of his elongated figures have skyrocketed to over 100 million dollars.
Sculpture is any three-dimensional form created by wood, plaster metal or various other media. The form can be representational or abstract. Our sculpture experts have appraised pieces made with unlikely objects, such as human hair and war artifacts! Like prints, sculptures can also be reproduced in limited edition quantities using the original cast to make multiple copies. Frederic Remington, the famed American Sculptor of the American West, was well-known for producing limited edition multiples. Edgar Degas’s Ballerinas also come in very limited editions. Many artists also experiment with every day objects. Marcell Duchamp worked with bicycle wheels, bottle racks, and even toilets! So if you think you have a pile of junk — think again! Challenge our experts to discover what your sculpture is worth!
Tips on submitting sculpture appraisals:
- The key is often in the inscriptions. Most often, significant sculptures have some sort of inscription or stamp identifying the foundry or maker. Be sure to submit detailed photos of all inscriptions and look for them in odd places!
